After Inter, Real and Chelsea, Linz-born Mateo Kovacic now joins reigning treble winners Manchester City.

Mateo Kovacic and his Croatia team-mates only shattered their dream of winning the Nations League against Spain last weekend in the penalty shoot-out of the final. A few days later, the midfielder will realize his dream transfer. Born in Linz, he joins Manchester City from Chelsea.

Star coach Pep Guardiola is clawing at the 29-year-old for the comparatively low price of 30 million euros. Chelsea are on sale these days. The Londoners are in a state of upheaval and need to thin out the lush squad.

Kovacic will fill the gap left by Ilkay Gundogan’s departure at the newly crowned treble winner. The German rejected an offer from Saudi Arabia and is said to be close to a transfer to FC Barcelona.

City won the Premier League, the FA Cup last season and the Champions League for the first time in the club’s history a week and a half ago. Kovacic thus joins possibly the best team of the present day, bringing a touch of Austria to the star ensemble of the Sheikh club.
