FC Copenhagen 4-3 Man Utd: Ten-Man Red Devils Capitulate in Denmark, Arsenal 2-0 Sevilla: Trossard & Saka net for the Gunners
Manchester United sunk to the bottom of Group A in the ongoing UEFA Champions League season, after a shock 4-3 defeat away to FC Copenhagen on Wednesday night.
Summer signing Rasmus Hojlund continued his brilliant run in Europe’s elite club competition as he netted a brace to give the Red Devils the lead, before the game practically turned on its head in favour of the hosts when Marcus Rashford received a straight red card for a dangerous lunge.
The hosts quickly made their numerical advantage count as Mohamed Elyounoussi and a penalty from Diogo Goncalves brought Copenhagen level before half-time.
Manchester United got a spot-kick of theirs which skipper Bruno Fernandes converted in the 70th minute, but the Red Devils once again failed to hold on to their advantage as FC Copenhagen scored twice in the space of five minutes to snatch the victory late on.
The Red Devils now need to get results against Bayern Munich and Galatasaray, if they hope to make it into the next round of the competition.
In our second fixture of the evening, Arsenal put themselves in firm position to reach the knockout rounds of the UCL after they defeated Spanish La Liga Sevilla 2-0 at the Emirates stadium.
The Gunners got the opener just before the half-hour mark, following a lovely build-up.
Jorginho’s through pass located Bukayo Saka, who then squared the ball across the area with Leandro Trossard firing home.
Mikel Arteta’s men increased their advantage in the upon resumption of the second half as Gabriel Martinelli put the impressive Bukayo Saka through on goal with a fine pass. The England forward then beat his marker before slotting home as the Gunners made it nine points from four group games.
