This week was National Streaming Day, so we put together a few surprising facts about streaming service companies.

📢 Netflix (NFLX) stores backup copies of its DVDs in an abandoned limestone mine in Liberty Canyon, Utah.

📢 The record-holding YouTube (GOOG) stream is an 18-hour static image. The channel “24/7 lofi hip hop radio” got 40 million views by streaming a single picture.

📢 “Hulu” (DIS) translates from Chinese as “gourd” — a symbol of storing valuable things.

📢 The TV series “Friends” cost Warner (WBD) $425 million for the rights, but 70% of Max (formerly HBO Max) viewers only rewatch the first 5 seasons.

📢 68% of Discovery+ (WBD) viewers are women over 35, and all shows are unscripted documentaries or reality TV.

📢 Peacock (CMCSA) paid $500 million for the rights to “The Office,” and 45% of viewers watch only that show.

📢 In 2020, Spotify (SPOT) launched playlists for cows. Cows that listen to classical music and ambient sounds give 3% more milk on average.
